Türkiye’s agricultural producer prices rise 45.40% annually in October
The Producer Price Index of Agricultural Products (Agriculture-PPI) increased by 45.40% annually and 4.00% monthly in October 2025, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) announced on Monday.
According to a statement from the Turkish Statistical Institute, the Producer Price Index for Agricultural Products (Agriculture-PPI) surged by 45.40% in October compared to the same month last year. On a monthly basis, the index rose by 4.00%, accelerating from the previous period.
The data, which uses 2020 as its base year (2020=100), also revealed that the index increased by 34.06% from December of the previous year, while the twelve-month moving average climbed by 38.83%.
The monthly price increases were felt across all major agricultural sectors. The key "products of agriculture, hunting and related services" category saw a 4.13% rise. Meanwhile, forestry products increased by 2.35%, and fish and aquaculture products rose by 1.84%.
A more detailed look at crop types revealed significant volatility. The index for non-perennial crops, which includes many vegetables, jumped by a sharp 12.00% month-on-month. Conversely, prices for perennial crops decreased by 1.32%. Live animals and animal products also became more expensive, registering a 1.75% increase.
The report highlighted specific product categories with the most dramatic price movements. Pome fruits and stone fruits, a subgroup that includes apples, pears, and peaches, recorded an astonishing annual increase of 137.84%, the highest of any category.
Furthermore, the subgroup of vegetables, melons, roots, and tubers posted the highest monthly increase, rising by 28.84% in October alone. This sharp uptick underscores the ongoing challenges in Turkey's fresh produce market, which is a significant component of the country's consumer inflation basket.
The continued sharp rise in producer prices at the farm gate is a leading indicator of future consumer food inflation, suggesting that the cost of living for Turkish citizens is likely to remain high in the coming months. (ILKHA)
