Türkiye’s export prices rise 8.2% in July as import prices jump 12.8%
Türkiye’s overall export unit value index rose 8.2% year-on-year in July, while the import unit value index increased by 12.8%, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) said.
The figures showed that export prices increased across all major categories during the month, with fuel recording the sharpest rise.
The export unit value index for manufactured goods, excluding food, beverages and tobacco, increased 6.1% compared with July 2025, while the index for food, beverages and tobacco rose 6.5%.
The index for crude materials, excluding fuels, increased 10%, while fuel export prices surged 39.4% year-on-year.
Despite higher export prices, Türkiye’s overall export volume index declined 4.9% in July compared with the same month a year earlier.
Export volumes of food, beverages and tobacco increased 2.9%, while crude materials excluding fuels rose 6.4%. In contrast, fuel export volumes plunged 30.2%, while manufactured goods excluding food, beverages and tobacco fell 4.2%.
Import Prices Rise Faster
Türkiye’s overall import unit value index climbed 12.8% year-on-year in July.
Import prices for food, beverages and tobacco declined 3.3%, while fuel prices increased 23.7%. The import unit value index for crude materials excluding fuels rose 11.6%, and manufactured goods excluding food, beverages and tobacco increased 9.1%.
At the same time, Türkiye’s overall import volume index fell 6.9% from a year earlier.
Food, beverages and tobacco import volumes rose 24.4%, while crude materials excluding fuels increased 11.3%. Fuel import volumes declined 8.6%, and manufactured goods excluding food, beverages and tobacco fell 7.7%.
Export Volumes Recover From June
On a calendar- and seasonally-adjusted basis, Türkiye’s export volume index increased 2.7% month-on-month in July, rising from 139.6 in June to 143.3.
However, on a calendar-adjusted annual basis, the export volume index declined 4.9%, falling from 149.4 in July 2025 to 142.1 in July 2026.
The calendar- and seasonally-adjusted import volume index, meanwhile, declined 8.7% month-on-month, from 125.7 in June to 114.7 in July.
On a calendar-adjusted annual basis, the import volume index fell 6.9%, from 129.2 in July 2025 to 120.3 in July 2026.
Terms of Trade Deteriorate
Türkiye’s terms of trade stood at 91.3 in July, down from 95.3 a year earlier.
The 4-point decline reflects the faster increase in import unit values compared with export unit values. The terms of trade is calculated by dividing the export unit value index by the import unit value index and multiplying the result by 100.
The July data indicate that while Türkiye received higher prices for its exports, the increase in import prices was considerably stronger, putting pressure on the country's trade conditions.
The figures also point to a decline in the physical volume of both exports and imports compared with a year earlier, with the contraction particularly pronounced in fuel trade. (ILKHA)
