HÜDA PAR's Education Affairs Directorate has called for a review of security measures around schools following an armed attack near a high school in Turgutlu district of Manisa province that injured several students.

In a written statement, the directorate expressed concern over the incident and wished the injured students a speedy recovery, offering its support to their families and members of the education community.

The statement said the incident raised questions about the effectiveness of security measures around schools and called for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack.

"This incident raises not only the question 'Were the necessary measures taken for school security?' but also a larger one: What are the reasons that push our children toward violence?" the directorate said.

HÜDA PAR said measures such as security cameras, risk assessments, early-warning systems and coordination between public institutions had been included in discussions on school security. It said the latest incident warranted a broader review of security arrangements in and around schools.

The directorate also called for greater attention to factors that it said could contribute to violence among children and young people.

It cited family, social, psychological, cultural and digital factors and said efforts to prevent violence should not rely solely on physical security measures.

"Protecting schools solely with security cameras is not enough," the statement said, adding that guidance services, family-school cooperation, a sense of belonging and moral education should also be considered as part of efforts to prevent violence.

The group also called for the incident to be investigated fully and said any individuals found to have been negligent should be held legally accountable.

HÜDA PAR said its expectation was that schools should remain safe environments for students and staff and that the circumstances surrounding the attack should be examined in detail.

Authorities have not yet publicly attributed responsibility for any security shortcomings in connection with the incident. (ILKHA)
