Erdoğan congratulates new UK prime minister in phone call, vows to deepen Türkiye-UK ties
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a telephone conversation with United Kingdom Prime Minister Andy Burnham, discussing bilateral relations between Türkiye and the UK as well as regional and global developments.
According to information released following the call, Erdoğan congratulated Burnham on assuming his new position and expressed confidence that relations between Türkiye and the United Kingdom would be further strengthened in the coming period.
The Turkish president highlighted the progress achieved in bilateral cooperation across a range of areas, with particular emphasis on the defense industry.
Erdoğan said the Strategic Partnership Framework Document and the Security and Defence Partnership Document signed by Türkiye and the UK constitute important milestones in the development of bilateral ties.
He emphasized that Ankara and London would continue working together to deepen cooperation in these areas and further strengthen their strategic partnership.
The two leaders also discussed efforts to expand economic cooperation, with Erdoğan stressing the importance of increasing bilateral trade and meeting investment targets.
Türkiye and the UK have sought to broaden their economic and strategic ties in recent years, including cooperation in defense, trade, investment and other sectors.
The leaders' discussion also covered regional and international developments, although no further details were immediately provided.
