Erdoğan, Trump discuss Türkiye-U.S. ties, regional developments and Gaza in phone call
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a phone conversation with U.S. President Donald J. Trump to discuss bilateral relations between Türkiye and the United States, as well as regional and global developments.
During the call, Erdoğan stressed the importance of making maximum use of diplomacy amid tensions between Iran and the United States. He expressed Türkiye’s hope that ongoing talks would continue and reaffirmed Ankara’s commitment to supporting diplomatic efforts aimed at preserving peace and stability.
Erdoğan also highlighted Türkiye’s recently signed Joint Defence Agreement with Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, saying the agreement demonstrated a strong commitment to ensuring regional stability and security.
The Turkish president further drew attention to what he described as an escalation in the Israeli administration’s actions targeting Palestinians, coming at a critical time as efforts are underway to advance to the second phase of the Gaza peace process.
Erdoğan emphasized that Türkiye would continue to support initiatives aimed at establishing lasting peace in the region and contributing to the reconstruction of Gaza.
The two leaders’ discussion comes amid heightened regional tensions and ongoing diplomatic efforts concerning Iran-U.S. relations and the Gaza conflict. Türkiye has repeatedly called for diplomacy to take precedence in resolving regional disputes while advocating for a lasting ceasefire and reconstruction efforts in Gaza. (ILKHA)
