Turkish defense industry sets ambitious goals in meeting in Ankara
Türkiye’s Defence Industry Executive Committee convened on Tuesday at the presidential complex in Ankara to discuss the nation’s top defense projects, goals, and the achievements of its domestic industry.
The committee reviewed several key initiatives, including the Steel Dome project, the indigenous Kaan fighter jet, the Bayraktar TB3, Akinci and Aksungur UAVs (drones), as well as various unmanned aerial and maritime vehicles. These projects reflect Türkiye's growing capabilities in defense technology.
"Assessments were made of the level achieved by Türkiye’s defense industry, future goals, and critical projects," stated the country’s Communications Directorate on X, emphasizing the commitment to supporting the domestic and national defense industry.
The Steel Dome project, which was a focal point of the meeting, aims to integrate layered air defense systems, sensors, and weapons into a cohesive network. This system is designed to provide a real-time common air picture and utilize artificial intelligence to aid decision-makers.
Additionally, the committee discussed advancements in air defense and missile systems, the indigenous Kaan fighter jet, and various UAVs like the Bayraktar TB3, Akinci, and Aksungur. Turkish UAVs have gained international recognition, particularly in conflicts such as Ukraine, and have secured contracts globally. An increasing percentage of the weapons and vehicles used by the Turkish Armed Forces are now domestically produced.
The meeting also addressed projects to enhance Türkiye's space access capabilities, situational awareness systems for land, air, and sea, electronic warfare systems, and defense measures against mini/micro UAVs and swarm-capable kamikaze unmanned maritime vehicles.
Other topics included modernizing tanks and fighter jets, developing engines and power systems for vehicles, and procuring command, control, and communication systems.
The committee expressed satisfaction with the progress in Türkiye’s defense industry and emphasized the importance of continuing to advance with increased determination using domestic technologies. (ILKHA)
