Türkiye has expressed its condolences to Algeria following the deadly traffic accident in the northern province of Boumerdès that claimed dozens of lives.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said it was deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life resulting from the accident, which occurred on July 31.

"We are deeply saddened by the loss of lives in a traffic accident that occurred today (31 July) in Boumerdès, Algeria," the ministry said.

The ministry extended its sympathies to the families of the victims and to the Algerian people, while praying for mercy for those who lost their lives.

"We wish Allah's mercy upon those who lost their lives in the accident, and extend our condolences to their families and to the people of Algeria," the statement added.

The fatal bus crash occurred near the coastal province of Boumerdès, east of the Algerian capital, Algiers, killing at least 25 people and injuring dozens of others. Emergency services rushed to the scene to rescue survivors and transport the injured to nearby hospitals, while Algerian authorities launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.

Türkiye and Algeria maintain close diplomatic, economic and cultural ties, with Ankara frequently expressing solidarity with the North African country during times of national tragedy. Friday's message from the Turkish Foreign Ministry reaffirmed Türkiye's support for the Algerian people as they mourn the victims of one of the country's deadliest recent road accidents. (ILKHA)
