President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan arrived in New York on Sunday to attend the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and hold a series of high-level meetings with world leaders during his visit to the United States.

Erdoğan was welcomed at John F. Kennedy International Airport by Türkiye's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Ahmet Yıldız, Ambassador to Washington Sedat Önal, Consul General in New York Ambassador Muhittin Ahmet Yazal, and other officials.

The president is accompanied by First Lady Emine Erdoğan, Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek, Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar, Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek, Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır, Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat, Director of the National Intelligence Organization (MIT) İbrahim Kalın, Head of the Presidential Communications Directorate Burhanettin Duran, Chief Presidential Adviser on Foreign Policy and Security Akif Çağatay Kılıç, and Chairman of the Council of Elders of the Organization of Turkic States, Binali Yıldırım.

Erdoğan to address UN General Assembly

As part of his programme, Erdoğan is scheduled to address the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly on September 22, delivering Türkiye's national statement on key regional and global developments. The speech will mark his 16th address to the General Assembly.

His address is expected to focus on the humanitarian situation in Gaza, efforts to end Israeli attacks, the recognition of the State of Palestine, regional conflicts, global peace and security, climate change, and the need for reform of the international system.

Intensive diplomatic agenda

On the sidelines of the General Assembly, Erdoğan is expected to hold a series of bilateral meetings with heads of state and government, as well as senior officials of international organizations.

The talks are expected to focus on regional developments, bilateral relations, economic cooperation, defence, energy, trade and international security.

On September 23, Erdoğan is also scheduled to participate in the UN Secretary-General's High-Level Event on Climate Action and Just Transition, where world leaders will discuss measures to accelerate climate action and support a fair energy transition.

The 81st UN General Assembly has brought together leaders and senior representatives from around the world to discuss major international challenges, including armed conflicts, humanitarian crises, sustainable development, climate change and global economic stability.

Türkiye is expected to use this year's General Assembly to advance its diplomatic initiatives through both its address to the Assembly and a series of high-level bilateral engagements.(ILKHA)
