At least 11 people were killed and three others wounded when unidentified gunmen opened fire at a residential property in South Africa’s eastern KwaZulu-Natal province, local media reported Wednesday.

The shooting took place late Tuesday night in the KwaMakhutha township, south of Durban, according to South African television channel eNCA. A pregnant woman was among those killed in the attack.

The victims had gathered inside the home when the gunmen stormed the property and opened fire shortly before 11 p.m. local time (2100 GMT).

Ten people were killed at the scene, while another victim died from their injuries while being taken to hospital, eNCA reported.

Three other people were wounded in the shooting and taken to hospital for treatment.

After the attack, the gunmen reportedly set fire to a vehicle belonging to the homeowner before fleeing the scene.

The motive for the shooting remains unclear, and authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or announced arrests.

Police are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack, including the identities of the gunmen and the possible motive behind the shooting.
