Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister Mawlavi Amir Khan Muttaqi held a telephone conversation with his Kyrgyz counterpart, Jeenbek Kulubaev, on Tuesday to discuss bilateral relations and ways to expand economic cooperation between the two countries.

According to Kyrgyz media reports, the talks focused on strengthening bilateral ties, with particular attention to trade, economic cooperation and investment.

The two sides discussed opportunities to deepen commercial relations and promote greater economic engagement, reflecting Afghanistan’s efforts to expand diplomatic and economic ties with countries across the region.

The talks come as Afghanistan’s Islamic Emirate continues efforts to strengthen relations with neighboring and regional states, particularly in areas such as trade, investment, transport and economic connectivity.

Islamic Emirate spokesman Mawlavi Zabihullah Mujahid has previously said that Afghanistan’s diplomatic apparatus is functioning effectively and that Kabul remains committed to developing relations with countries around the world.

Afghanistan has increasingly sought to use regional economic cooperation to expand trade and attract investment while strengthening its position within Central Asia.

Kyrgyzstan, meanwhile, has shown growing interest in expanding economic engagement with Afghanistan as Central Asian countries seek greater access to markets and trade routes connecting the region with South Asia.

The latest conversation between Muttaqi and Kulubaev signals continued diplomatic engagement between Kabul and Bishkek as both sides explore opportunities for closer economic and commercial cooperation. (ILKHA)
