At least 16 people were killed and 40 others injured after a passenger bus crashed into a parked truck on a major highway in central Cameroon early Friday, according to police and local reports.
The accident occurred in Nomale, in the Ndikinimeki subdivision of Mbam-et-Inoubou Department, along the Yaounde-Bafoussam highway.
Local media reported that the bus collided with a truck carrying timber that was parked on the roadside.
Police and emergency teams were dispatched to the scene after the crash was reported. Cameroon’s state broadcaster CRTV said at least 16 people were killed and around 40 others were injured.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.
The Yaounde-Bafoussam route is one of Cameroon’s main transport corridors and has previously witnessed deadly traffic accidents involving passenger buses and heavy vehicles.(ILKHA)
