At least 62 people have died and 46 others have been injured after severe rainfall triggered floods in India's northern Uttar Pradesh state.

Heavy rains that continued for three days caused flooding and waterlogging in several parts of the state, leading to casualties and widespread damage.

State authorities said the death toll from the floods has risen to 62, while 46 people were injured due to the severe weather conditions.

More than 1,000 houses were damaged by the heavy rains and flooding, while classes were suspended at some schools due to the ongoing situation.

Authorities urged residents living in flood-affected areas to avoid unnecessary travel and follow official warnings.

Meanwhile, heavy rainfall also caused flooding in the eastern state of Odisha.

Authorities said more than 75,000 people were evacuated to safer areas as rescue and relief operations continued in affected regions.(ILKHA)
