Iran operation in Strait of Hormuz leaves 8 US Marines injured
Eight US Marines were injured during an operation carried out by the Islamic Republic of Iran against a vessel in the Strait of Hormuz on September 14, according to reports.
Citing three US officials, US media reported that an Iranian anti-ship cruise missile targeted a maritime vessel carrying US troops. The injured personnel were part of an amphibious unit affiliated with the US Marine Corps.
Seven of the injured soldiers were reported to be enlisted personnel, while one was an officer.
Officials said the troops were not aboard a US Navy warship and did not provide details about the type of vessel that was targeted.
The operation had not previously been disclosed publicly and took place amid ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States in the strategic waterway.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) also announced that it had seized a US unmanned underwater vehicle in the Strait of Hormuz, claiming the device was conducting intelligence activities in the area.
Security of maritime traffic and the continuation of energy shipments through the Strait of Hormuz remain among the main issues affected by rising tensions in the region.(ILKHA)
