Iran criticizes new UN Security Council resolution on Gaza
Iranian Foreign Ministry has expressed "serious concern" over the recently passed United Nations Security Council Resolution No. 2803 on Gaza, accusing its drafters of deliberately undermining the world body's own role and prior resolutions on Palestine.
While affirming its support for international efforts to end the "genocide and crimes of the Zionist regime," ensure humanitarian aid, and achieve a complete Israeli withdrawal, Tehran launched a multi-pronged critique of the resolution's provisions.
The central Iranian argument is that the resolution imposes a "guardianship system" on the Gaza Strip, thereby stripping the Palestinian people of their fundamental rights. The Ministry stated that the resolution deprives Palestinians of "the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Holy Quds as its capital."
Iranian officials declared that any move to legitimize the occupation, divide Gaza, or separate it from the unified geography of Palestine is unacceptable and warned of "dangerous consequences." Instead, the Islamic Republic insisted that any international forces deployed must operate under full UN supervision, with their role strictly limited to monitoring ceasefire implementation and aid distribution.
The statement strongly reaffirmed Iran's position on the legitimacy of armed resistance "against occupation, apartheid, and colonialism," framing it as the Palestinian people's lawful response to ongoing aggression. It further asserted that any decision on the governance of Palestinian territories must stem solely from a "Palestinian national agreement and consensus," rejecting any externally imposed solution.
In the immediate term, Iran highlighted the urgent priorities of addressing the "genocide, imposed famine, and colonial annihilation" facing Palestinians. It called on the international community to exert pressure on Israel to halt its crimes and occupation.
Finally, the statement served a stark reminder to the UN Security Council and its member states, accusing them of "apparent failure and inaction" over the past two years. It emphasized their responsibility to finally prosecute and hold accountable the "war criminals and genocidal perpetrators" responsible for the suffering in Gaza. (ILKHA)
