Massive fire in Japan damages over 170 buildings, one missing
A large-scale fire in Oita Prefecture, Japan, has caused significant damage, affecting over 170 buildings and leaving one person missing.
The blaze broke out near the Saganoseki port area, prompting the evacuation of more than 180 residents from the surrounding neighborhoods.
According to local authorities, the fire spread across approximately 49,000 square meters and extended into nearby forested areas. Despite 12 hours of firefighting efforts, flames remained partially uncontrolled, with emergency teams continuing their operations to fully contain the blaze.
Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaiichi assured on the X platform that all necessary support would be provided in coordination with local authorities. Firefighting units, supported by hundreds of personnel, worked intensively to protect homes and prevent further escalation of the disaster.
The incident highlights ongoing risks in densely populated port regions, where urban and forested areas are in close proximity. Officials are continuing search and rescue efforts to locate the missing resident and assess the full extent of the damage. (ILKHA)
