Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it carried out a missile and drone attack on the U.S.-used Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait, claiming that a number of U.S. personnel were killed and several unmanned aerial vehicles were destroyed.

The IRGC said the operation was launched in retaliation for a reported U.S. strike on a residential area in Sirik County, Hormozgan province, where Iranian officials said a wedding ceremony was taking place.

IRGC claims strike targeted US facilities

In a statement released by its Public Relations Department, the IRGC said its Ground Force carried out a combined missile and drone operation targeting the headquarters and accommodation facilities of the U.S. commander at Ali Al Salem Air Base.

The statement claimed that "a number of enemy personnel" were killed in the attack and that a drone hangar and a platform used for deploying unmanned aircraft were destroyed.

The IRGC also said the operation was carried out simultaneously with attacks targeting U.S. positions in Jordan, Bahrain and Erbil.

Iran describes attack as retaliation

The IRGC said the strike was a response to what it described as a U.S. attack on a residential area in Sirik, where Iranian authorities reported civilian casualties during a wedding ceremony.

Iranian officials previously said several people were martyred and dozens were injured in the strike, including children.

The United States has not confirmed the IRGC’s claims regarding casualties at the base. International reports noted that Iran has made claims about damage and casualties from strikes on U.S. facilities, while such claims have not always been independently verified.

IRGC addresses Kuwaiti public

In its statement, the IRGC said its operations were directed against the presence of U.S. forces in the region and not against the Kuwaiti people.

The statement emphasized Iran’s relations with Kuwait and argued that the main issue was the deployment of U.S. military forces on regional soil.

The IRGC concluded its statement with the phrase: "Victory comes only from Allah, the Almighty, the All-Wise."

The latest developments come amid a sharp escalation in tensions between Iran and the United States, with both sides exchanging attacks across the region.(ILKHA)
