Israeli authorities demolished several tin-built industrial structures in the town of Jabaa, northeast of occupied Jerusalem, on Wednesday morning, according to the Jerusalem Governorate.

The governorate said the structures belonged to Palestinian residents of Jerusalem and had previously been served demolition notices by Israeli authorities on the grounds that they had been built without the required permits.

Israeli forces also bulldozed the land surrounding the structures during the operation, according to the governorate.

The demolitions are part of a broader pattern of Israeli restrictions on Palestinian construction in and around Jerusalem, where Palestinians face significant difficulties obtaining building permits from Israeli authorities.

Palestinian officials and rights organizations have repeatedly criticized such demolitions, saying they contribute to the displacement of Palestinian residents and restrict the development of Palestinian communities.

The issue of construction and demolition has remained particularly contentious in occupied East Jerusalem and surrounding areas, where Palestinian residents say Israeli planning and permit policies make it difficult to obtain authorization for homes, businesses and other structures.

The latest demolition in Jabaa adds to concerns over the continued destruction of Palestinian-owned property and the expansion of Israeli control over land in and around Jerusalem. (ILKHA)
