Israeli forces have re-entered Maariya village in western rural Daraa province, southern Syria, amid continued military activity in the Yarmouk Basin area.
The reports said Israeli military vehicles entered the village, but no further details were available regarding the number of vehicles involved or the duration of their presence.
Maariya has witnessed several Israeli incursions in recent months. Syria’s official news agency SANA reported on August 4 that an Israeli force had entered the western part of the village, searched several civilian homes and later withdrew without making arrests.
The agency also reported that Israeli forces had carried out engineering work in the Yarmouk Basin area to reopen an old dirt road.
Earlier in July, Israeli forces reportedly entered Maariya and damaged a civilian motorcycle after opening fire. Local residents later closed a road that had been opened by the forces.
On July 27, Israeli forces reportedly opened heavy fire toward Maariya, while another group consisting of two tanks and two military vehicles entered the outskirts of Jomleh village in western Daraa countryside.
Military activity continues in Yarmouk Basin
The Yarmouk Basin has become one of the main areas of Israeli military activity in southern Syria in recent months.
On July 28, Israeli forces reportedly entered the area around Wadi al-Raqqad in western Daraa countryside and opened fire toward agricultural lands and roads in the valley.
The Syrian government has described Israeli military activities in southern Syria as violations of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement and called for the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the area.
