Major cyber breach exposes confidential Apple and Tesla files
Apple and Tesla supplier Tata Electronics has suffered a major cybersecurity breach, with researchers reporting that over 200,000 corporate files have been leaked on the dark web.
According to cybersecurity researchers speaking to Reuters, a ransomware syndicate operating under the moniker "World Leaks" has published a massive dataset exceeding 630 gigabytes.
The leaked cache reportedly includes proprietary engineering schematics, component design specifications, manufacturing standards, and confidential corporate communications.
Among the exposed data, researchers identified hundreds of documents detailing Apple’s strict iPhone manufacturing protocols.
The leak also includes technical blueprints bearing "Trade Secret" labels related to Tesla’s major automotive projects, specifically components linked to the Model 3 and Model Y platforms.
Tata Systems Breach Confirmed
In an official statement addressing the security lapse, Tata Electronics disclosed that it detected an intrusion into some of its digital networks a few weeks ago.
The company stated that incident response protocols were immediately activated to contain the threat.
"A few weeks ago, Tata Electronics identified a cybersecurity incident on some of our systems. Our response protocols were deployed immediately, and the incident has had no impact on our operations across businesses, which remain unaffected," the company noted, downplaying any immediate threat to its production lines.
Despite the company’s operational reassurance, sources close to the matter indicated that Tata Electronics received a substantial ransom demand following the data exfiltration.
The "World Leaks" group, known to be a rebranded iteration of the prominent Hunters International ransomware syndicate, routinely focuses on high-profile data theft and extortion rather than simple file encryption.
Strategic Implications for Global Supply Chains
The data breach has raised urgent questions regarding the vulnerability of multinational tech supply chains. This comes at a time when Apple is executing an aggressive long-term strategy to diversify its production ecosystem outside of China.
Over the past few years, India has emerged as a cornerstone of Apple’s alternative manufacturing strategy.Consequently, Tata Electronics has served as one of the tech giant's most vital local assembly and component manufacturing partners.
Security specialists reviewing the dark web directory confirmed that the dataset contains extensive folders named "com.apple.factorydata" along with specific material specifications.
For Tesla, the leak reportedly covers technical drawings linked to "Project Highland"—the internal codename for Tesla's redesigned Model 3 sedan. It also exposes data regarding charge-port controllers used in the Model Y program.
Beyond proprietary industrial intellectual property, the threat actors reportedly leaked sensitive internal logs and multi-year corporate registries.
The leaked data further includes scanned copies of employee passports, including those of foreign nationals.
While Tata Electronics continues its forensic investigation into the digital breach, both Apple and Tesla have yet to issue formal public comments regarding the incident. However, industry insiders report that Apple has launched a comprehensive independent evaluation to determine the full scope of the intellectual property exposure.
