Nearly 71,000 Palestinians killed in Gaza, majority women and children
The number of Palestinians killed in the Gaza Strip since the start of Israel’s genocidal war in October 2023 has risen to 70,937, according to medical sources cited by local health authorities.
The majority of the victims are women and children, underscoring the devastating toll of the ongoing assault on the civilian population.
Health officials reported that the total number of Palestinians injured has climbed to 171,192, with thousands more believed to be trapped beneath the rubble of destroyed homes and infrastructure. Emergency and civil defense teams continue to face severe restrictions and shortages, leaving many victims unreachable and feared dead.
In the past 24 hours alone, at least 12 Palestinians were confirmed killed. This figure includes eight victims whose deaths had not been previously documented and four newly confirmed fatalities. Seven additional people were reported injured during the same period.
Despite the announcement of a ceasefire agreement on October 11, 2025, casualties have continued to mount. Since that date, health authorities have recorded 405 Palestinian deaths and 1,115 injuries. During this period, 649 bodies have been recovered from under the rubble, reflecting the scale of destruction left by months of relentless bombardment.
Palestinian medical officials warn that the true death toll is likely significantly higher due to the large number of missing persons and the continued inability of rescue teams to access many devastated areas. Hospitals across Gaza remain overwhelmed, operating under dire conditions amid shortages of medicine, fuel, and essential equipment.
The staggering figures highlight the catastrophic human cost of Israel’s war on Gaza, as international calls grow louder for accountability, protection of civilians, and an end to what Palestinians and human rights organizations describe as an ongoing genocide. (ILKHA)
