An oil tanker suffered severe damage after an unidentified object struck its engine room off the northeastern coast of Oman, maritime authorities said, while the vessel's crew remained safe and the cause of the incident is under investigation.

According to the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), the incident occurred about 9 nautical miles (16.7 kilometers) off the coast of Shisah in northeastern Oman.

The unidentified object reportedly hit the vessel's engine room, causing extensive damage and leaving the tanker unable to continue under its own power.

UKMTO said all crew members were safe and that no injuries or fatalities had been reported. Authorities also indicated there were no immediate signs of an oil spill or marine pollution.
