Qatar and Pakistan announce progress in first round of US-Iran talks
Qatar and Pakistan announced on Monday that the first round of high-level talks under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding has concluded successfully, describing the atmosphere as “positive and constructive” with encouraging progress on key issues.
In a joint statement, the two mediating nations said the discussions produced notable advances on procedural and technical matters, laying a solid foundation for the broader mediation process.
The two countries agreed to establish a high-level committee to provide political oversight of the mediation efforts. The committee will supervise the implementation of understandings reached during the talks and ensure coordination between political and technical tracks.
A key outcome of the first round is the adoption of a clear roadmap aimed at reaching a final agreement within the next 60 days. Under the framework, senior negotiators will submit regular progress reports to the high-level committee to maintain momentum and monitor advancements.
Both sides also established a dedicated mechanism to facilitate ongoing technical-level discussions. This structure is designed to address remaining issues and support the implementation of agreed steps.
The mediators emphasized their central role in ensuring compliance and sustaining dialogue, particularly on efforts aimed at ending aggression in Lebanon and achieving broader regional stability.
The joint statement confirmed that the first round of high-level talks, held in Switzerland, marks the beginning of a structured, multi-tiered mediation process. Qatar and Pakistan expressed commitment to continuing their joint mediation efforts to help de-escalate tensions and support a sustainable political solution.
Further rounds of technical and high-level discussions are expected to follow in the coming weeks as part of the agreed 60-day timeline. (ILKHA)
