Ukraine Contact Group announces $1 billion new military aid package for Ukraine
Ukrainian Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov announced that allied countries had pledged a new $1 billion military assistance package for Ukraine during a meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group (Ramstein Group) in Brussels.
Fedorov made the remarks at a joint press conference held at NATO headquarters alongside NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius and British Defence Minister Dan Jarvis.
According to Fedorov, the allies agreed to provide $1 billion under NATO's Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL), describing it as one of the largest support packages announced under the programme.
He said additional assistance, including long-range artillery systems and missiles, was also unveiled during the meeting.
Fedorov noted that efforts had been launched with European partners to strengthen Ukraine's defence capabilities against ballistic missiles, an initiative proposed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He expressed confidence that progress could be achieved in the near term.
The minister also said participants discussed allocating part of the proceeds generated from frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine's domestic unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) production.
Emphasising that Ukraine continues to strengthen its defence capabilities, Fedorov said: “We will continue doing our homework. We are making progress every day.”(ILKHA)
