Thousands rally to close NATO radar base in Türkiye

Thousands of people gathered in Kürecik, a neighborhood in the Akçadağ district of Malatya province, to demand the closure of a NATO radar base that they say provides intelligence to israel.
The rally, organized by the Malatya Jerusalem Brotherhood Platform, was supported by various NGOs and political parties, including HÜDA PAR. The participants chanted slogans against israel and NATO, and waved flags of Palestine and Türkiye.
The rally started with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by speeches from various representatives of the platform and its supporters.
Ömer Derin, the president of the Malatya branch of IHH, a humanitarian NGO, said that the radar base was a threat to the security and sovereignty of Türkiye and the Muslim world. He called on the Turkish government to end its cooperation with NATO and israel, and to stand with the oppressed people of Palestine.
Vedat Turgut, the provincial chairman of HÜDA PAR in Diyarbakır, another speaker at the rally, said that the radar base was a tool of the zionist occupation and aggression. He said that the base was not only providing information to israel, but also enabling its attacks on Gaza, Syria, Iraq, and Iran. He urged the Turkish people to unite and resist against the imperialist and zionist plots.
The Kürecik radar base, which was established in 2012 as part of NATO's missile defense system, has been a source of controversy and protest in Türkiye. Critics of the base argue that it serves the interests of Israel and the US, and undermines Turkey's regional role and independence. (ILKHA)
