Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with his Syrian counterpart Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani in Ankara as the two neighboring countries continued efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and coordinate on regional developments.

According to diplomatic sources, Fidan and al-Shaibani discussed ways to further deepen cooperation between Türkiye and Syria, while also reviewing preparations and developments related to the Türkiye-Syria High-Level Coordination Council.

The talks form part of Ankara and Damascus’ broader efforts to develop closer political and diplomatic coordination following years of strained relations.

The two foreign ministers also exchanged views on the latest developments in the region, with regional security and stability remaining key areas of mutual concern.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry has described stable and sovereign Syria as an important objective for regional security, while Ankara has continued to engage closely with Damascus on political, security and economic issues.

The meeting comes amid continuing efforts by the Syrian government to consolidate state institutions and strengthen its relations with neighboring countries. Türkiye, meanwhile, has maintained close diplomatic engagement with Damascus as the two sides seek to establish a new framework for bilateral cooperation.

The High-Level Coordination Council is expected to provide a mechanism for expanding cooperation across multiple areas and coordinating policies on issues affecting both countries.

Fidan and al-Shaibani have held several rounds of talks in recent months. Their August 6 meeting in Ankara also focused on strengthening bilateral relations and regional developments, underscoring the increasingly regular diplomatic coordination between Ankara and Damascus.
