Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will participate in a ministerial meeting on Jerusalem to be held in the Jordanian capital, Amman, on August 5, Türkiye's Foreign Ministry announced on Tuesday.

In a press statement, the ministry said the meeting will be hosted by Jordan and will bring together foreign ministers and senior officials to discuss developments concerning Jerusalem and the broader situation in the occupied Palestinian territories.

"Hakan Fidan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye, will participate in the Ministerial Meeting on Jerusalem to be hosted by Jordan in Amman on 5 August 2026," the ministry said.

Although the ministry did not provide further details about the agenda, the gathering is expected to focus on recent developments in Jerusalem, efforts to protect the city's historical and religious status, and the deteriorating humanitarian and political situation in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Türkiye has consistently reaffirmed its support for the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, while repeatedly calling for the protection of the city's Islamic and Christian holy sites.

Ankara has also maintained close coordination with Jordan, the custodian of the Islamic and Christian holy sites in occupied East Jerusalem, on issues related to the preservation of the city's historical and legal status.

The ministerial meeting comes amid continued regional and international diplomatic efforts addressing the situation in Jerusalem and the wider Palestinian issue. (ILKHA)
