Gaza protests Israel’s systematic ceasefire violations as death toll tops 1,000
Thousands of Palestinians took to the streets of Gaza City on Tuesday in a powerful demonstration against Israel’s ongoing and systematic violations of the fragile ceasefire agreement.
Organized by Palestinian national and Islamic factions, the protest gathered outside Al-Shifa Hospital, one of the symbols of Gaza’s resilience amid repeated Israeli assaults. Demonstrators condemned Israel’s continued aggression, which they say has transformed the supposed truce into a new form of war waged through starvation, displacement, and daily killings.
Participants carried banners urging the international community to act immediately to halt Israeli breaches and hold the occupying power accountable. Chants and speeches emphasized that the war on Gaza has never truly ended — it has only changed its methods.
Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem stated clearly: “The war on Gaza has not stopped but continues in different forms.” He accused Israel of deliberately violating the agreement through severe restrictions on humanitarian aid, the closure of border crossings, the aggressive westward expansion of the so-called “yellow line,” and the imposition of collective punishment on the civilian population.
Qassem stressed that these actions place heavy political, legal, and moral responsibility on mediator countries and guarantors to pressure Israel into respecting the terms of the agreement. He noted that Palestinian factions are engaging constructively with mediators on the implementation of the second phase, including ideas for an international force and a Palestinian administration in Gaza. Hamas, he said, is ready to cooperate with any genuine arrangement that ends the suffering and begins the reconstruction of Gaza, even offering to transfer civil and security responsibilities.
Senior Palestinian Islamic Jihad official Daoud Shehab blamed Israel for the persistent violations, pointing to devastating casualty figures. Since the ceasefire took effect on October 10, 2025, more than 1,000 Palestinians have been killed and nearly 3,000 injured. Shehab warned that these continued attacks seriously threaten the stability of the truce and could lead to a new round of escalation.
Political analyst Taysir Muhaysin described a pattern of thousands of Israeli violations, including restrictions on internal movement, forced displacement of families through expansion of the “yellow line,” and deliberate obstruction of humanitarian aid. These policies, he said, have worsened the already catastrophic humanitarian situation, deepening poverty, shortages, and daily misery for Gaza’s population.
According to Palestinian health sources, Israeli violations had killed 1,021 Palestinians and injured 3,260 others as of Monday. Two years of brutal war that began on October 8, 2023, have already claimed over 73,000 Palestinian lives, injured more than 173,000, and destroyed around 90% of Gaza’s civilian infrastructure.
Despite the supposed ceasefire, basic obligations — such as fully opening border crossings and allowing sufficient humanitarian, medical, and reconstruction supplies — remain unfulfilled by the Israeli side, leaving the people of Gaza trapped in an ongoing humanitarian catastrophe.
Palestinians continue to demand full implementation of the agreement, an end to the siege, and accountability for the devastation inflicted upon them. (ILKHA)
