Gunmen ambush convoy of Shariff Aguak mayor in southern Philippines

The mayor of Shariff Aguak in the southern Philippines escaped unharmed after his convoy was ambushed early Sunday morning in Maguindanao del Sur, local media reported.
Mayor Akmad Ampatuan was traveling through Barangay Poblacion at around 6:30 a.m. when gunmen attacked his convoy. CCTV footage of the incident, which has since circulated online, shows the vehicle carrying the mayor being struck by what authorities said was a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG).
Despite the impact, the armored Land Cruiser continued moving, allowing the mayor to escape without injury. However, two members of his security detail were wounded in the attack, according to the Manila Bulletin.
Reports said the convoy’s backup vehicle was also hit by gunfire. The injured security personnel were taken to the Bangsamoro Regional and Medical Center in Datu Hoffer Ampatuan, where they are receiving treatment.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the attack and are working to identify those responsible. (ILKHA)
