The Hamas Movement has welcomed recent remarks by Mohsen Rezaee, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, calling for an end to ongoing conflicts across the region, including the wars in Gaza and Lebanon.

In a statement issued Thursday, senior Hamas official Basem Naim said that ending the conflicts would serve the broader interests of the peoples of the region and help protect their future.

“Stopping the conflicts across the region serves the higher interests of its people and future,” Naim said.

He warned that Israel uses continued warfare as a means of fragmenting the region, fueling instability and exhausting its resources.

Rezaee's remarks came after his appointment as secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, the country's top security body.

The Iranian president’s communications office announced Sunday that President Masoud Pezeshkian had appointed Rezaee to the position.

Rezaee, a former commander-in-chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, replaced Mohamed Zolghadr. Zolghadr was subsequently appointed political adviser to Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, according to the statement.

The position had previously been held by Ali Larijani, who, according to the information provided, was killed in a US-Israeli strike in March.

Hamas' response highlights the movement's support for efforts aimed at reducing regional tensions and ending conflicts that it says have caused widespread destruction and instability across the region. (ILKHA)
