Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi has strongly criticized the adoption of a Western-drafted resolution targeting Iran at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors.

In a post on social media, Gharibabadi said attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities had disrupted the normal verification process carried out by the UN nuclear watchdog. He argued that the very disruption caused by the attacks was subsequently being used by Western countries as a pretext to push through a resolution against Iran.

According to Gharibabadi, the sequence of events demonstrates what Tehran views as a politically driven approach toward Iran’s peaceful nuclear program rather than a genuine effort to resolve outstanding issues through diplomacy.

He said the adoption of the resolution would not help restore the normal verification process or contribute to resolving differences between Iran and the IAEA.

The Iranian deputy foreign minister characterized the Western-backed resolution as another attempt to exert political pressure on Tehran and warned that such measures would ultimately prove ineffective.

Gharibabadi stressed that the disruption to nuclear monitoring should be understood in the context of the attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities, rather than being used to justify further pressure on the country.

He concluded that the politically motivated resolution would “get nowhere,” signaling that Tehran remains opposed to efforts to instrumentalize the IAEA and Iran’s nuclear dossier for political purposes. (ILKHA)
