Israel launches new wave of air raids on Lebanon despite truce
The Israeli occupation carried out at least six airstrikes on multiple areas in southern Lebanon, in a new escalation that blatantly violates the ceasefire agreement reached last year, which explicitly mandated an end to hostilities.
According to local sources, violent air raids targeted the Iqlim al-Tuffah region and Mount Safi. Wadi Azza, located between the Nabatieh and Saida governorates, was also struck in what Lebanese sources described as a renewed act of aggression, heightening tensions once again along the southern front.
Despite the ceasefire agreement, Israeli violations have continued unabated, adding to what Lebanese officials and rights groups describe as a growing list of crimes committed against Lebanon, particularly in its southern areas. Official data released on November 27, 2025, recorded a total of 5,163 violations since the agreement was signed. These included 2,850 aerial attacks, 2,150 ground incursions, and 163 maritime violations. The assaults have resulted in 309 Lebanese martyrs and 598 injured civilians.
The latest escalation comes shortly after a visit to Lebanon by the rotating president of the United Nations Security Council, Slovenian Ambassador Samuel Žbogar, who reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to Lebanon’s stability and territorial integrity during official meetings in Beirut.
Žbogar, who led a delegation of Security Council representatives, stressed the importance of fully implementing UN Resolution 1701, which calls for a cessation of hostilities. He also praised the efforts of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon in maintaining stability amid ongoing regional tensions.
During a separate meeting in Baabda, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun reaffirmed Lebanon’s commitment to international resolutions and urged the Security Council to pressure Israel to uphold the 2024 ceasefire agreement. He also called for increased international support for the Lebanese Army as it carries out its national duties.
The renewed airstrikes have raised serious concerns in Lebanon and across the region, as fears grow that continued violations could further destabilize the fragile security situation along the Lebanese–Palestinian frontier. (ILKHA)
