Israeli bombardment triggers deadly building collapse in Gaza Strip
Several Palestinians were injured and dozens remain missing after a residential building collapsed at dawn on Monday in the Maghazi refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip, amid continued Israeli bombardment of the area.
Local sources reported that at least five people were injured in the incident, some of them in critical condition, while rescue teams and residents continue searching for those trapped under the rubble. The four-story building had been severely damaged in earlier Israeli airstrikes and ultimately collapsed following the sustained and intense shelling targeting eastern areas of Maghazi and other parts of Gaza.
Eyewitnesses said the collapse occurred as Israeli forces carried out daily bombardments, shaking nearby homes and spreading panic among civilians, most of whom are already displaced or living in overcrowded conditions. The destruction of the building has further compounded the humanitarian catastrophe facing residents of the camp, where access to heavy rescue equipment, medical supplies, and emergency services remains extremely limited due to the ongoing siege.
Medical sources warned that the number of casualties could rise as efforts to reach those buried under debris continue, hampered by a lack of fuel, machinery, and safe passage for ambulances. Families of the missing gathered at the site, desperately awaiting news of their loved ones.
The Maghazi refugee camp, like other densely populated areas of Gaza, has been repeatedly targeted during Israel’s ongoing military assault, raising serious concerns over the safety of civilians and the widespread destruction of residential infrastructure. Palestinian officials and human rights groups have condemned the continued attacks on populated areas, stressing that the systematic bombardment of homes and refugee camps constitutes a grave violation of international humanitarian law.
As the assault continues, Gaza’s civilian population—particularly refugees—faces mounting losses, deepening trauma, and an ever-worsening humanitarian crisis. (ILKHA)
