Lithuanian prime minister Inga Ruginiene resigns after ruling coalition changes
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda on Tuesday accepted the resignation of the government following a reshuffle within the ruling coalition.
The departure marks the dissolution of the country's 20th government, as the entire cabinet unanimously accepted the resignation decision during today's parliamentary session.
Addressing the cabinet during the final meeting, Ruginiene expressed gratitude to the serving ministers for their cooperation, stating that the outgoing administration had delivered substantial contributions to the nation during its tenure.
Ruginiene explicitly dismissed political speculation surrounding her departure, emphasizing that her decision should not be interpreted as a political sacrifice or the result of internal party purges.
Following the resignation, the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party announced that party leader Mindaugas Sinkevicius has been formally nominated by the ruling coalition partners as the candidate for the next prime minister.
Upon receiving official approval from the parliament, Sinkevicius will be granted a standard 15-day legislative period to form a new cabinet and submit the comprehensive government program for a parliamentary vote. (ILKHA)
