A swimmer was killed after being attacked by a shark off Sorrento Beach in Western Australia, authorities said.
Western Australia Police said emergency teams were dispatched following reports of a shark attack in waters off the popular beach near Perth.
The victim, who was swimming along the coast, was attacked by the shark during the incident. Police launched a search operation involving boats and helicopters after receiving the report.
Authorities later confirmed that the swimmer died as a result of the attack.
Following the incident, local authorities temporarily closed beaches in the area as a precaution.
Sorrento Beach, located about 20 kilometres from Perth city centre, is one of the region’s popular swimming locations.
The attack came after several recent shark incidents in Australia, including another attack in Western Australia that left a surfer seriously injured.(ILKHA)
