Top Iranian, Chinese diplomats demand UN action over Israeli violations

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a phone conversation on Sunday to discuss the escalating Israeli military aggression against Iran.
The call comes amid heightened tensions following a series of Israeli strikes targeting Iranian nuclear facilities and civilian areas.
During the conversation, both top diplomats issued strong condemnations of the Israeli attacks, which have resulted in the deaths of Iranian military commanders, scientists, and civilians — including women and children.
Foreign Minister Araghchi described the Israeli strikes as “blatant violations of international law” and called on the international community to adopt a firm stance against what he labeled “the Zionist regime’s acts of aggression.” He particularly urged for clear condemnation from global institutions such as the United Nations Security Council.
Araghchi warned that Israel’s continued provocations could push the region into a broader and far more dangerous conflict. Reiterating Iran’s right to self-defense under international law, he noted that Tehran had already retaliated and would continue to respond “decisively” to any further attacks.
The Iranian official also criticized the latest resolution passed by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors — spearheaded by the United States and several European countries — which censured Iran’s nuclear program. Araghchi dismissed the resolution as a “politically motivated tool” being used to legitimize Israeli hostility, and he expressed appreciation for China’s opposition to the measure.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi echoed Tehran’s concerns, reaffirming Beijing’s unwavering support for Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He condemned Israel’s strikes on Iranian nuclear sites as a serious breach of international norms and confirmed that China had registered its opposition both within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and at the UN Security Council.
Wang also highlighted the necessity of de-escalation to prevent further regional instability. He commended Iran for consistently emphasizing the peaceful nature of its nuclear program and expressed concern over the continued destabilizing impact of U.S. backing for Israeli military actions.
The call underscored growing diplomatic alignment between Iran and China, as both countries seek to counterbalance increasing Western and Israeli pressure amid rapidly intensifying tensions in the Middle East. (ILKHA)
