U.S. President Donald Trump announced that products manufactured by Canadian aircraft maker Bombardier will no longer be allowed to be sold in the United States, escalating trade tensions between Washington and Ottawa.

Trump said Bombardier generates more than half of its revenue from the U.S. market while Canada continues to impose barriers on American companies operating north of the border.

According to Trump, Bombardier benefits extensively from American customers, businesses, airports and aviation services despite what he described as Canada's unfair treatment of U.S. companies.

He argued that Canadian policies have restricted the activities of American banks and businesses and have prevented U.S. business jet manufacturer Gulfstream Aerospace from competing fairly in the Canadian market.

Trump said the United States could no longer allow Bombardier to benefit from unrestricted access to the American market under those conditions. He also said Bombardier should manufacture its products in the United States if it wants to continue selling them in the country, adding that his administration would prioritize companies investing and producing domestically.

The announcement marks another step in Trump's "America First" trade policy, which has included tariffs and market restrictions aimed at encouraging foreign manufacturers to relocate production to the United States.

The latest move adds to a series of trade disputes between the United States and Canada involving manufacturing, aviation and market access. The two countries remain among each other's largest trading partners despite recurring disagreements over industrial and trade policies.

Neither Bombardier nor the Canadian government immediately issued a detailed response to Trump's announcement.(ILKHA)
