Wildfire burns 24,000 hectares in Utah, forcing evacuations
A fast-moving wildfire in the U.S. state of Utah has burned nearly 24,000 hectares of land and forced the evacuation of multiple communities and campgrounds as firefighters continue efforts to contain the blaze.
According to U.S. authorities, the fire, identified as the Cottonwood Fire, broke out in Beaver County on June 22 and rapidly expanded amid high temperatures, dry conditions and strong winds reaching up to 80 kilometers per hour.
The U.S. Forest Service said the wildfire has scorched approximately 24,000 hectares, making it one of the largest active fires currently burning in Utah.
State officials warned that the fire remains uncontrolled and continues to pose a threat to nearby residential areas. Mandatory evacuation orders have been issued for several communities and recreational camping sites in the affected region.
The U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) maintained elevated fire danger warnings across much of Utah, citing low humidity levels and gusty winds that could fuel existing fires and spark new ones.
Authorities said the Beaver County blaze is among hundreds of active wildfires across the state. Utah officials reported that 353 wildfires remain active, with firefighting crews working to prevent further spread.
No fatalities or injuries had been reported as of Thursday, while damage assessments were ongoing.(ILKHA)
