OECD Director for Education and Skills Andreas Schleicher has described Türkiye’s performance in the 2025 Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) as “a success story that the whole world should study.”

In a video message released following the publication of the PISA 2025 results, Schleicher congratulated Türkiye’s teachers and school leaders, emphasizing that the country is among the few education systems to improve student performance simultaneously in mathematics, reading and science.

According to the PISA 2025 results, Türkiye climbed 15 places in science, 18 places in reading and 11 places in mathematics compared with the previous assessment. The country also recorded score increases in all three subjects, making it the highest-improving OECD member between 2022 and 2025.

“Your achievement in this latest cycle of the OECD’s PISA assessment is not only good news for Türkiye; it is a success story that the whole world should examine carefully,” Schleicher said.

He noted that Türkiye’s progress reflects long-term educational development rather than a one-time improvement, pointing to consistent gains in student performance across all three core subjects and a significant decline in the share of low-performing students since 2015.

“What we are seeing is an education system that is truly moving forward,” he said.

Schleicher also stressed the importance of teachers, noting that seven out of ten students in Türkiye reported that their teachers continue explaining lessons until they understand the material and provide additional support whenever needed. He added that students now view their classroom learning environment more positively than they did a decade ago.

Highlighting the importance of education in shaping the country’s future, Schleicher said today’s students will become tomorrow’s engineers, entrepreneurs, doctors, researchers, teachers and public servants.

He further emphasized that curiosity, perseverance, a sense of agency and a growth mindset have become increasingly valuable in an era where knowledge evolves rapidly and artificial intelligence can generate answers within seconds.

Schleicher also encouraged the effective use of digital technologies, including artificial intelligence, stressing that technology should empower students rather than merely simplify processes.

He underlined the role of families in education, urging parents to engage with their children’s learning by asking what they study, listening to them and encouraging their progress.

Concluding his message, Schleicher congratulated Türkiye’s education community once again and expressed confidence in the country’s future.

“Türkiye’s most valuable natural resource is the talent, imagination and potential sitting in your classrooms today,” he said.(ILKHA)
