Türkiye has expressed condolences following a deadly explosion at an ammunition depot in Syria’s northwestern Idlib province.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said it was “deeply saddened” by the loss of lives in the explosion, which occurred earlier in the day at an ammunition depot in Sarmada, near the Syrian-Turkish border.

“We wish Allah’s mercy upon those who lost their lives in this tragic accident, and extend our condolences to their families and to the people of Syria,” the ministry said.

The cause of the explosion has not yet been disclosed.

Sarmada, located in northern Idlib, has been affected by years of conflict in Syria and hosts numerous warehouses and facilities associated with military and humanitarian activities.

The incident comes as Syria continues efforts to restore stability and rebuild areas affected by more than a decade of conflict. (ILKHA)
