Amnesty International USA has called on the United States to end its political, military and financial support for the Israeli regime, urging governments worldwide to take stronger action against what it described as serious violations of international law in the occupied Palestinian territories.

The organization said states must use all available means to ensure they do not contribute to or become complicit in violations of international humanitarian and human rights law, calling for cooperation that facilitates such abuses to be suspended.

Calls for arms embargo and sanctions

Amnesty International USA renewed its call for a comprehensive arms embargo on the Israeli regime, urging governments to halt transfers of weapons and military equipment that could be used to commit or facilitate violations of international law.

The organization also called for targeted economic measures and sanctions against officials it says are responsible for policies involving the forced displacement of Palestinians, the annexation of occupied land, and the expansion of illegal settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories.

In addition, Amnesty urged governments to ensure that companies under their jurisdiction do not participate in projects linked to settlement expansion, land confiscation or other activities that contribute to the occupation.

Pressure on Washington intensifies

The appeal comes as Amnesty International USA steps up pressure on the U.S. administration and Congress over Washington's support for the Israeli regime during the ongoing war in Gaza and over its policies regarding the occupied Palestinian territories.

The organization has urged the United States to suspend military assistance and stop transferring weapons that could be used to commit serious violations of Palestinians' rights, arguing that continued support risks contributing to breaches of international law.

Growing international scrutiny

The latest statement reflects increasing international scrutiny of the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories, where rights groups have repeatedly called for greater accountability and stronger measures to protect Palestinian civilians.
