Death toll in Gaza rises to 72,072 as casualties continue to mount
The number of Palestinians killed and injured in ongoing Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip has climbed sharply, with medical sources reporting a total of 72,072 fatalities and 171,741 injuries since the escalation began in October 2023.
Health authorities said on Sunday that, over the past 48 hours alone, two Palestinians were killed and three others wounded in Israeli strikes. Rescue and civil defense teams continue to face significant challenges in reaching victims trapped beneath rubble or lying in streets across affected areas, raising concerns that the toll could increase further as recovery efforts continue.
Officials added that since a ceasefire came into effect on October 11, 2025, at least 614 Palestinians have been killed and 1,643 injured. In addition, 726 bodies have been recovered during this period, reflecting the scale of destruction and the ongoing humanitarian strain.
Medical sources emphasized that the figures remain provisional, as many areas are difficult to access due to damage to infrastructure and security risks. Hospitals and emergency services in Gaza continue to operate under severe pressure, grappling with shortages of medical supplies and limited capacity amid sustained humanitarian needs.
The situation on the ground remains fragile, with humanitarian agencies warning that continued violence and restricted access are hampering relief efforts and delaying assistance to affected families. (ILKHA)
