Five killed in helicopter crash in Malaysia's Sarawak

Five people, including a pilot and four Health Ministry personnel, were killed when a Flying Doctor Service helicopter crashed near the Long Lellang Short Take-Off and Landing (STOL) airport in Sarawak, Malaysia.
The BO-105 helicopter crashed at around 3:40 p.m. local time near Long Lellang in northern Sarawak, according to Malaysian authorities. The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) said it received notification of the incident at 3:58 p.m.
Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad said the four ministry personnel on bo9999907ward were a medical officer, an assistant medical officer and two nurses. They were carrying out official duties as part of the Flying Doctor Service, which provides medical services to people living in remote areas.
The helicopter had departed from Miri and was operating a medical flight covering several remote locations, including Ba Lai, Long Siut and Long Lellang.
Search and rescue operations were initially hampered by the remote location of the crash site and haze conditions. Police said the site is about 929 kilometers north of Kuching, while access by road from Marudi can take around 10 hours.
The crash involved a privately owned helicopter chartered for the Flying Doctor Service. Malaysia's Air Accident Investigation Bureau, operating under the Transport Ministry, will investigate the cause of the accident in accordance with civil aviation regulations.
Authorities have not yet released further details about the circumstances of the crash or the identities of the victims.(ILKHA)
