Gaza’s death toll surges to nearly 69,000 amid ceasefire violations
The death toll from the ongoing Israeli genocidal assault on the Gaza Strip has climbed to 68,865 martyrs, the Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza announced on Sunday morning, underscoring the relentless human cost of the occupation’s aggression that began on October 7, 2023.
According to the ministry’s statement, the total number of wounded Palestinians has surged to 170,670, as Israel’s attacks continue despite international appeals to uphold the fragile ceasefire agreement reached on October 10, 2025.
In its daily report, the ministry detailed that seven more Palestinians were martyred overnight, including three recovered from under the rubble of destroyed homes and three others killed in renewed Israeli airstrikes, in addition to six wounded.
Even after the ceasefire agreement came into effect, Israeli occupation forces have continued to violate it, carrying out repeated airstrikes, drone attacks, and artillery bombardments across the besieged enclave.
Since the truce began, at least 236 Palestinians have been killed and 600 others injured, while the bodies of 502 martyrs have been recovered from beneath the ruins of residential neighborhoods bombed during previous assaults.
Health officials warn that the figures are likely to rise further, as thousands remain missing under the debris, particularly in northern and central Gaza, where rescue operations are severely hampered by fuel shortages, communication blackouts, and the deliberate targeting of civil defense teams by Israeli forces.
The ongoing Israeli campaign—widely condemned as collective punishment and a genocidal war against the Palestinian people—has devastated Gaza’s infrastructure, leaving hospitals crippled, families displaced, and entire neighborhoods erased from the map.
Despite international outcry and repeated calls from humanitarian organizations, Israel’s attacks have persisted, further deepening what the United Nations has described as one of the gravest humanitarian catastrophes of the 21st century.
Palestinian officials and human rights groups continue to call for international intervention and accountability, stressing that silence in the face of such atrocities enables the continuation of what they describe as a systematic campaign of ethnic cleansing against Gaza’s population. (ILKHA)
