An 18-year-old student and a 30-year-old man were killed in a knife attack at a school in Gosen-Neu Zittau, near Berlin, on Wednesday, while two other people were injured, German authorities said.

Police said officers arrested one suspect shortly after the attack and launched a homicide investigation. The incident prompted a large emergency response, with police and medical teams deployed to the school.

According to Berliner Zeitung, the victims included an 18-year-old female student and a 30-year-old man who reportedly tried to stop the attacker.

Local newspaper Maerkische Allgemeine reported that the suspect is the victim's 19-year-old former boyfriend, though authorities have not officially confirmed the relationship or identified a motive.

The two injured victims were taken to hospital, while investigators continued gathering evidence at the scene.
