Hamas delegation meets Turkish Foreign Minister in Ankara
A senior-level Hamas delegation held a meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Ankara late Saturday to discuss the latest developments regarding the ongoing conflict in Gaza and the political situation in occupied Palestine.
According to a Hamas statement, the two sides focused on Israel’s violations of the ceasefire agreement, including the destruction of the Turkish Friendship Hospital, the only facility in Gaza specializing in cancer treatment. The hospital's destruction is seen as part of Israel's renewed aggression on the Gaza Strip.
The discussions also touched on the progress of ceasefire negotiations, with particular attention to American envoy Steve Witkoff’s proposal and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s refusal to engage in the second phase of the ceasefire agreement. Netanyahu’s stance, including the closure of Gaza’s crossings before humanitarian aid could reach the area, was strongly criticized.
The Hamas delegation reaffirmed the importance of holding Israel accountable for its actions and emphasized the Movement’s flexibility in the talks. They reiterated their demands for a permanent ceasefire, a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, and the exchange of prisoners.
Minister Fidan, on behalf of Turkey, expressed unwavering support for the Palestinian people and condemned Israel’s continued aggression. He stressed the need for Israel to honor all stages of the ceasefire agreement, ensure the resumption of aid supplies, and facilitate the immediate reconstruction of Gaza.
This meeting comes as the humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate, with calls from the international community for a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire agreement. (ILKHA)
