Islamic Jihad accuses Israel of violating Gaza ceasefire after deadly strikes
The Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement (PIJ) has accused Israel of committing a clear violation of the Gaza ceasefire agreement following a series of overnight airstrikes that targeted multiple areas across the Gaza Strip, including tents housing displaced civilians.
According to the movement’s spokesperson, Muhammad al-Hajj Musa, the bombings, which took place late Tuesday night and continued into Wednesday morning, resulted in numerous civilian casualties. He condemned the attacks as part of Israel’s “systematic aggression” against Gaza’s population, emphasizing that the occupation continues to justify killings under “flimsy and false pretexts.”
“The continued targeting of civilians, especially women and children, demonstrates the occupation’s persistence in its systematic aggression,” al-Hajj Musa said in a statement. “The policy of assassinations and bombardments shows that Israel has not respected the ceasefire agreement, neither in spirit nor in practice.”
Al-Hajj Musa asserted that all Palestinian Resistance factions have strictly adhered to the ceasefire terms since its implementation on October 11, and have not engaged in any violations. He also accused Israel of deliberately hindering the retrieval of its own soldiers’ bodies by blocking the entry of technical teams and equipment into Gaza, claiming this was part of an effort to mislead international opinion and shift blame onto Palestinian groups.
The PIJ spokesperson called on international mediators to take a “firm and serious position” against Israel’s actions, warning that the repeated violations threaten to unravel any progress toward stability.
Al-Hajj Musa also placed direct responsibility on the United States for what he described as the continuation of Israel’s aggression, accusing Washington of enabling the occupation instead of holding it accountable.
“The U.S. administration must stop justifying Israel’s war crimes and pressure it to abide by the ceasefire agreement it claimed to support,” he added.
Medical sources in hospitals across Gaza reported that at least 100 Palestinians, including 46 children, were killed in the latest wave of Israeli strikes. The attacks reportedly targeted residential homes and makeshift tents sheltering displaced families in various parts of the Strip.
The escalation has sparked renewed fears for the safety of civilians, particularly those who had sought refuge in areas previously designated as safe zones.
Concluding his remarks, al-Hajj Musa urged continued global solidarity movements in support of Gaza, calling them an “effective means of pressure” to halt Israel’s actions and ensure accountability for what he termed as ongoing violations of international law.
The latest violence marks one of the most serious flare-ups since the October ceasefire came into effect, threatening to reignite full-scale hostilities and derail ongoing diplomatic efforts to maintain calm in the region.
