Israeli drone strike in Lebanon's Bekaa kills two, sparks condemnation
An Israeli drone strike late Tuesday targeted the Shaara area in the eastern Mount Range above Janta in Lebanon’s Bekaa region, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and injuring two others.
The attack has drawn sharp condemnation from Lebanese officials, who describe it as a flagrant breach of international agreements.
Dr. Ibrahim Al-Moussawi, a member of the Loyalty to Resistance parliamentary bloc, issued a strongly worded statement denouncing the strike as “a serious violation and a blatant aggression” that undermines the terms of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701. “This is the second such criminal act deep inside Lebanese territory in less than a month,” Al-Moussawi said, pointing to a pattern of escalation by Israeli forces. He criticized the international community’s apparent inaction, warning that the lack of a firm response reflects either indifference or an inability to hold Israel accountable.
Al-Moussawi called on the Lebanese government, military, and presidency to take immediate action to halt what he termed “Zionist criminality” and urged global guarantors of Resolution 1701 to confront Israel’s repeated violations of Lebanese sovereignty. “If these attacks persist without deterrent measures or condemnation, it could be seen as encouragement—or even collusion—with Israel’s policy of destruction and aggression,” he added, emphasizing that such actions contradict fundamental principles of state sovereignty and protection of civilians.
The strike follows other reported Israeli border violations on Tuesday, including the deployment of flares over the outskirts of Naqoura and Alma Al-Shaab in southern Lebanon. The incidents have heightened tensions in the region, with Lebanese officials demanding swift intervention to prevent further escalations.
As the situation unfolds, pressure mounts on both national and international actors to address the ongoing violations and restore stability along Lebanon’s borders. (ILKHA)
