Afghanistan’s Minister of Refugees and Repatriation, Mawlavi Abdul Kabir, said approximately 8 million Afghan nationals have returned to the country from neighboring states since the Islamic Emirate assumed power.

Kabir made the remarks during a humanitarian aid distribution event for families who had returned to Afghanistan in Paktia province, where he emphasized that the repatriation process remains ongoing.

The minister said Afghan authorities are continuing efforts to assist returnee families and address their basic humanitarian and housing needs.

As part of these efforts, the authorities are working to allocate land for the construction of homes for thousands of returning families, Kabir said.

He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to providing additional assistance to vulnerable households and supporting returnees as they seek to rebuild their lives after returning to Afghanistan.

The large-scale return of Afghan nationals from neighboring countries has placed additional pressure on Afghanistan’s housing, employment and humanitarian systems, making support for returnee families a key challenge for the authorities.

Kabir said the administration would continue working to facilitate the reintegration of returnees and provide assistance to families in need. (ILKHA)
