OIC urges peaceful dialogue to resolve Kabul-Islamabad tensions
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has urged Afghanistan and Pakistan to resolve their recent disputes through dialogue and diplomacy, amid ongoing border clashes and rising tensions.
Khalil Ibrahim Okur, Deputy Director General for Humanitarian Affairs at the OIC, expressed concern over the continued strain between the two countries, emphasizing support for the Afghan people. “We hope peace will prevail and that wisdom will guide the situation,” Okur said. “Afghanistan and Pakistan are brotherly countries, and we hope the issue will be resolved through diplomatic channels.”
Although tensions have reportedly eased slightly over the past 24 hours compared to earlier clashes, regional efforts to further reduce hostilities are still underway.
Meanwhile, the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) called for transparency in Pakistan’s foreign policy regarding the conflict. Spokesperson Hussain Ahmad Yusufzai questioned the government’s rationale for the clashes, saying, “The nation wants to know why we are fighting Afghanistan. Across Pakistan, no one knows the reason for our current conflict with Afghanistan, and this is our demand.”
Pakistan’s Defense Minister, speaking in a local media interview, affirmed the continuation of military readiness against Afghanistan. On the other side, Mawlawi Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid, Minister of National Defense of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, reiterated that Afghan forces are prepared to defend the country. “We are ready for war, whether it lasts one month, one year, or even ten years. We have no fear and no concern, and we assure the people they should not worry,” he stated.
Nearly two weeks after the escalation of clashes, both Kabul and Islamabad have yet to reach a final agreement, leaving the situation tense and unresolved. (ILKHA)
