New Delhi is stepping up security and civic preparations ahead of the 18th BRICS Summit, with police conducting motorcade rehearsals and authorities introducing traffic restrictions across the Indian capital.

The summit is scheduled to take place at Bharat Mandapam on September 12 and 13, bringing together leaders and senior representatives from BRICS member and partner countries, outreach nations and international organizations.

As part of preparations for the high-profile international gathering, the Delhi Police conducted motorcade rehearsals across the National Capital on Monday morning and reviewed security arrangements along key routes.

Authorities implemented traffic diversions and regulated movement at 22 locations during the exercises, warning motorists to expect restrictions as security agencies fine-tune arrangements ahead of the summit.

Security measures have also been strengthened across the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) area, which includes several important government and diplomatic locations.

According to Delhi Police, security arrangements along the Yamuna River have also been reviewed. Officers will maintain heightened surveillance from the historic Purana Qila as part of measures designed to monitor the wider area.

The security preparations reflect the scale and international importance of the summit, which is expected to attract senior delegations and require extensive coordination among security, traffic and civic agencies.

Alongside security measures, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is carrying out beautification and streetscape improvement projects across prominent parts of the capital.

The works include road repairs, freshly painted kerbs, clearly marked zebra crossings, upgraded footpaths, thematic artwork and improvements to public spaces.

Civic authorities are undertaking the projects to improve both the appearance and functionality of major areas of New Delhi before international delegations arrive for the summit.

The measures are also intended to enhance pedestrian infrastructure and create a cleaner and more presentable urban environment in areas expected to see increased movement during the two-day event.

The 18th BRICS Summit will bring together leaders of BRICS member and partner countries, as well as representatives from outreach countries and heads of international organizations.

The gathering will provide a platform for discussions on issues of shared interest and global importance, while also placing New Delhi under heightened international attention.

With the summit approaching, Indian authorities are continuing to coordinate security, traffic management and civic improvements to ensure the capital is prepared to host the high-level international event. (ILKHA)
